The Battle of Port Jefferson
Civil War Re-Enactment
Every year in Jefferson, Texas, a time portal seems to open up and allow visitors to step onto a Civil War battlefield from the 1860's. Cannons thunder, the cavalry rides once again with their swords raised high, and foot soldiers storm their opposing forces under heavy rifle fire and exploding shells. It is a re-enactment of the battle that never was... the battle that would have taken place if the Union troops had not been defeated at the Battle of Mansfield. They were heading to Jefferson to burn the town, so this is the battle for the town that might have taken place. You can go strictly for the battle, or take an entire day to explore the camps and watch the hourly festivities!
